Finding Peace in Slowing Down: The Joy of Missing Out (JOMO)
Have you ever found yourself scrolling through your phone late at night, feeling a quiet sense of exhaustion, yet unable to put it away? Or perhaps you’ve said “yes” to a social plan or work obligation when every part of your body was longing for a quiet evening at home?
In our fast-paced world, we are constantly nudged to stay connected, stay busy, and keep up with everyone else. We’ve grown accustomed to FOMO – the Fear of Missing Out. But what if we shifted our perspective? What if choosing to step back wasn’t about losing anything, but about gaining something far more meaningful?
Welcome to JOMO—The Joy of Missing Out.
What is JOMO?
JOMO isn’t about isolating yourself or turning away from the world. It is the gentle, intentional practice of reclaiming your energy and time. It means granting yourself permission to turn down noise and distraction so you can tune in to what truly nourishes you: rest, deep connection, presence, and quiet joy.
When we embrace JOMO, we experience:
- Lower Stress & Anxiety: Stepping off the treadmill of constant social comparison and digital notifications.
- Deeper Presence: Being fully there for the moments, people, and simple pleasures right in front of you.
- Emotional Energy: Preserving your inner resources for the goals and relationships that matter most.
To help you reflect on your relationship with digital overload, social boundaries, and rest, I’ve created a downloadable JOMO Assessment & Guided Practice Worksheet.
Inside, you will find:
- Â A quick diagnostic self-assessment tool to measure your FOMO vs. JOMO balance.
- Â Practical exercises for setting healthy boundaries without guilt.
- A weekly tracker to help you introduce restorative “slow living” habits into your life.
You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
Learning to slow down, enforce boundaries, and prioritize your own well-being can sometimes feel daunting – especially if you are used to taking care of everyone else first.
If you feel overwhelmed by digital fatigue, chronic stress, or boundary challenges in your personal life or relationship, please know that support is available. Together, we can build a space where you feel grounded, balanced, and at ease.
Warmly,
